My morning routine has become my sacred time. My non-negotiable time of the day to connect with myself and spirit (or universe, god or whatever your higher calling happens to be). I have made an agreement with my soul that no matter what, I make myself and my connection with the divine a priority each day.
Think about it for a second. What does your morning look like? What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
Look at your phone and check email or Facebook? Turn on the news and see all the horrible things happening in the world? Start complaining about having to go to work? Allow the barrage of negative thoughts you have about yourself or your day to overcome you?
Now tell me, how successful and joyful will your day be if you live from this place?
I’ve said this before and I will say it again…HAPPINESS IS A CHOICE. It’s that simple. You choose your thoughts. You choose how you react to other peoples actions. You choose the information you digest.
Want to create a morning routine that encourages a positive day? Here are some suggestions to get you started:
- Prayer, intentions and positive thoughts.
Every morning before I even step out of bed I thank the universe for another beautiful day. I then spend a few minutes mentally running through my day having gratitude for getting to do what I do. Sometimes I’ll also send loving energy to every part of my day and visualize it going successfully.
- Warm water with lemon.
Each morning I drink a cup of warm water with organic lemon juice. This is an aryuvedic principle for healthy digestion and vitality.
Your meditation time can vary from about 10 minutes to an hour, depending on your preference. I prefer to meditate for shorter intervals, but if you have time and the desire to sit for longer, go for it.
If you’ve never meditated before, I usually suggest that people start with guided meditations. You can go to YouTube and find a ton of great ones. One thing to note about meditation: it isn’t actually about shutting off your brain, it’s about breathing and getting into a state of relaxation, and allowing your mind to open up to your innate guidance system, your intuition and creativity. Check out www.zivamind.com, which is a great site for beginning meditation.
- Move your body
Moving my body on an (almost) daily basis is also a non-negotiable for me. When I exercise or get my body moving in some way first thing in the morning, it benefits me all day. My energy is higher, my thoughts and head are clear, ideas flow more easily and I sleep much more peacefully.
